Too many people bounce between from all out exercise to none at all. Finding a happy medium for the average person is the real challenge. They need to incorporate healthy eating and exercise as part of their lifestyle. I believe that setting moderate exercise goals that you can stick to for the long haul work best.

The gym I work at tracks our attendance numbers for fitness classes through the year. As you can imagine numbers skyrocket in January when students come back for spring semester. Attendance is so high we have to turn people away for the first few months, but we see a dramatic decline a few weeks in, typically around the Superbowl. I wish I could help encourage everyone to keep coming, not just for their resolutions, for their own health benefit!

Journaling is huge help! The best part about it is looking back at your goals a few months into your workout routine and seeing if you're on track. I recommend hiding your goals after you write them so the constant reminder doesn't deter you if you don't see immediate results. I also recommend logging workouts in your journal, or at least major milestones, as a way to see just how hard you've been working!
